Woman shot boyfriend and herfelf after an abortion PDF Print E-mail
From ALIVE, 6 November 2006

An American policewoman who shot dead her boyfriend and then killed herself was distraught over an abortion two weeks earlier, according to the Miami Herald.

A family friend told how he was called to the house after the man locked his enraged girlfriend out of their home during an intense argument. An hysterical Laura Gunas, 30, asked him, "when he felt the need to call you, did he tell you about killing my baby?"

Getting increasingly upset, she told her boyfriend, "you need to tell him about you killing my baby."

A short time later she shot her way into the house through a glass door, then shot her boyfriend and herself.

European and US studies show that women who have aborted a child are at much greater risk of psychiatric problems and suicide.

A recent study in the European Journal of Public Health found that in Finland the suicide rate among women who had abortions was six times higher than that of women who had given birth in the previous year.

And a Canadian study in 2001 found that among 41,000 women who had abortions, hospital admission rates for psychiatric problems in the following three months were five times higher than rates for women who had not had an abortion.
