Hondurans Grilled PDF Print E-mail

On 2 Aug 07 Austin Ruse wrote “Next time you meet someone from Honduras, say thank you. Honduran diplomats patiently endured yet another round of grilling by the UN’s CEDAW committee this week – even when the committee implied that they were criminals for protecting the unborn as well as their mothers.”

“The European Union and other donors are threatening to cut aid to the poor country of Nicaragua if abortion isn’t legalised.”

“Harsh birth control steps fuel violence in China.” New York Times, 22 May 07

“An intensive campaign to enforce strict population control measures, including forced abortions, prompted violent clashes between the police and local residents in south-western China in recent days, witnesses said on Monday, describing the latest incident of rural unrest that has alarmed senior officials in Beijing. . . .

“The violence seemed to stem from a two-month crackdown in Guangxi to punish people who violated the country’s policy that sets legal limits on the number of children families are allowed to have.” Hammers and iron rods had been used to destroy people’s homes. The blind human rights activist Chen Guang Chen, who was allowed a re-trial after being jailed for reporting on forced abortions, has been sent back to jail.
