The Commission for Social Care Inspection has been urged to update the system following investigation into a number of deaths at the Maypole Nursing Home, now closed. "'This case highlights the gaps in the system. Relatives are not trained to see abuse and GP's should not be able to sign their own death certificates - there is a conflict of interest,' said Gary FitzGerald, chief executive of Elder Abuse" (Guide 2 Care, 15 September 05.) |
